Black Starlights
Welcome to my cosplay brand, Black Starlights! When I’m not crafting a new story or poem or editing photos I’ve taken, I’m building a new character to dress up as. Cosplaying is the act of dressing up as a character from a show, movie, book, or video game. Everything you see here, has been designed by yours truly - from the logo to the brand manual. As a black cosplay, I am often faced with different forms of transgressions or negative attention for cosplaying a non-black character.
The purpose of my brand is to show that the color of your skin should not stop you from portraying characters you admire and resonate with.
I cosplay because I love it—and I won’t let anyone dim my light. Through Black Starlights, I hope to inspire others to do the same: to take up space, to be seen, and to never apologize for who they are.
